This idea for using HST’s results in a somewhat larger quilt than the previous example, about 85 inches by 85 inches. The sashing is two inches wide, the outside borders are five inches wide and the blocks are sixteen inches square. Without the outside borders, it would measure 75 inches by 75 inches.
The block requires a little more than just the HST’s. Each Block requires eight cheddar 2 inch finished squares (2.5 inches cut), eight neutral background 2 inch finished squares (2.5 inches cut) and 16 print 2 inch finished squares (2.5 inches cut) in addition to 32 HST’s.
The entire quilt requires 512 HST’s, 153-2.5 inch cut cheddar squares, 128-2.5 inch cut neutral background squares, 256-2.5 inch cut print squares and 40-2.5 inch by 16.5 inch green sashing strips. One yard of cheddar, one yard total of neutral background fabric, scraps or 5 fat quarters for the print squares, 1.5 yards of green sashing fabric, and 1.5 yards of border fabric should do the job!
